Abstract

This research is based on the following problems: (a) How is the knowledge and understanding of class VII students at SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak about proper and correct ablution procedures? (b) How can the demonstration method improve ablution skills in class VII students at SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak? While the objectives of this research are: (a) Increase knowledge and understanding of how to perform ablution properly and correctly according to the provisions of Islamic law, (b) Improve students' skills in ablution material in class VII at SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak by using the demonstration method.This study uses two rounds of action research. Each round consists of four stages, namely: design, activities and observations, reflection, and revision. The target of this research is the seventh grade students in SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak. The data obtained in the form of formative test results, observation sheets of teaching and learning activities. From the results of the analysis, it was found that student learning achievement experienced an increase from cycle I to cycle III, namely, cycle I (71.21%), cycle II (80.81%) and cycle III (89.99%).The conclusion of this research is that the demonstration teaching method of problem-based teaching model can have a positive effect on the achievement and learning motivation of VII students at SMP Negeri 5 Pontianak, and this learning model can be used as an alternative to learning Islamic Religious Education.
