In general, the reality that teachers do in learning Islamic Religious Education (PAI) still uses learning with conventional methods that are more concerned with achieving material (content oriented), while students are not more just listeners. The
provision of action in this study aims to find out whether the use of props is the use of pop-up book props in class IX-11 Semester I of the 2019/2020 Academic Year of SMP Negeri 4 Balikpapan.
Utilization of pop-up book props in grades IX-11 Semester I of the 2019/2020 Academic Year of SMP Negeri 4 Balikpapan. The approach used in this study is a qualitative approach because researchers seek to study more deeply about the use of
props through the use of pop-up book props. And the results showed that the average score of the subjects experienced a significant increase, starting from 71.75 (medium ability category) on prerequisite ability increased to 79.99 (moderately achieved) in action 1, increased again to 83.15 (moderately achieved) in action 2, and increased again to 87.2 (high achieve) in action 3. Thus, PAI learning by utilizing pop-up book props in class IX-11 Semester I of the 2019/2020 Academic Year at SMP Negeri 4 Balikpapan.
The low yield of students is suspected to be because the teacher has not used props as one of the tools that can help to improve student achievement results. On the other hand, according to the author's observation, that children are now less interested in reading lessons, so that the material that has been taught when tested does not achieve results in accordance with the minimum completion criteria that have been set. One of them is the study of islam. Lack of awareness that reading is a very
important thing in the teaching and learning process so that it needs to be applied in everyday life. This happens because the learning pattern of Islamic PAI tends to use the lecture method and emphasizes students to learn the material by reading. Students are less invited to play an active role so that students have difficulty understanding and understanding that Islamic religious education must be applied in everyday life.
