Abstract

The purpose of this research to improve the students' reading skills of the Qur’an through the application of peer tutoring strategies. From the results of observations in the field, namely students at SMAN 6 Palangka Raya, many of the students have not been able to read the Qur'an properly and correctly. Meanwhile, the basic competencies that must be mastered by students in aspects of the Qur'an are the skills of reading and demonstrating memorizing the Qur'an. This is a complicated problem in PAI learning. Given the limited time allocation with a broad curriculum content, of course it will not be effective if the teacher teaches students one by one
to read the Koran. Peer tutoring learning strategies are applied in order to make learning effective and improve the ability to read the Quran evenly, so that PAI learning runs smoothly and effectively. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The object of this research is the students of class XI MIPA 1 at SMA Negeri 6 Palangka Raya, totaling 15 students. Data was collected using the
observation method to observe the level of learning activity and the final test given at the end of each cycle. The results of the study indicate that the application of peer tutoring learning strategies can improve students' reading skills of the Koran. The final results showed an increase per cycle where in the pre-cycle was 58%, the first cycle was 70%, and the second cycle was 80%. These results are in accordance with the specified indicators, which are above 75%. From these results, it can be seen that in the pre-cycle the percentage is 58%, namely the students' reading skills of the Qur'an in the low category, in cycle 1 it increases 12% to 70% in the medium category. In cycle 2, it increased again by 10% to 80%, including the high category and exceeding the 75% success indicator. It can be concluded that the peer tutoring strategy can improve students' reading skills of the Qur’an.
