Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of using YouTube videos as online learning media; describe improving critical thinking skills in PAI online learning; and describe the use of YouTube videos as PAI's online learning media. This study uses a combination approach, namely a research method that combines quantitative methods and qualitative methods to be used together in a research activity in order to obtain comprehensive, valid, reliable, and objective data. In this study, quantitative methods used experiments to determine the effectiveness of the independent variable (treatment) on the dependent variable (outcome) under controlled conditions. The results showed that; 1) From the hypothesis test of the paired sample t-test, the value of sig 2 tailed < 0.05 it can be stated that with the use of YouTube videos, students' critical thinking improvement is better and the average value of students is better than  students who do not use YouTube. video as a learning medium. The results of the hypothesis test are in line with the qualitative results which state that as long as the use of YouTube video as an online learning medium for Islamic Religious Education makes students actively participate in lessons, are able to analyze problems and are not shy in expressing their opinions in class; 2) Based on the statistical results of the comparison of increasing thinking skills of students in the experimental class and control class, the value of sig 2 tailed <0.05 is obtained so that Ho is accepted which reads the increase in critical thinking skills = high. In line with the qualitative results obtained data that by using YouTube video as a medium of learning the improvement of students' thinking skills is getting better. Students are more active in asking questions, able to analyze problems and provide arguments or opinions when learning takes place; 3) The effectiveness of using YouTube video as an online learning medium to improve students' critical thinking skills based on the results of the independent sample t-test test obtained a value of sig 2 tailed < 0.05 which states that there is a difference in the average posttest of the experimental class and the control class, it shows that the experimental class can work on the posttest questions better than the control class. The results of the qualitative analysis stated that the use of YouTube videos as a learning medium to improve critical thinking skills greatly helped students understand learning material, the class became  active and students began to get used to asking questions in class, analyzing problems, expressing opinions and making conclusions from the PAI material presented. have been studied. From these data it can be said that the use of YouTube videos as a learning medium to improve critical thinking skills is effective.
